Empowering Caregiver Women in Kisoro District, Southwest Uganda

SMART Goal

By December 31, 2031, empower 120 vulnerable caregiver women in Kisoro District with practical income‑generating skills and ethical financial advisory support, resulting in measurable increases in household income, improved children’s access to education and healthcare, and stronger, self‑sustaining family livelihoods.

SMART Objectives

  1. Skills & Livelihoods

  2. Income Improvement
By the end of the project period, achieve a minimum 40% average increase in household income among participating families, as measured through the project’s MEAL system.
  3. Financial Stewardship
Provide interest‑free, ethical financial advisory and mentorship services to all participating women, enabling 80% to demonstrate improved budgeting, savings habits, and reinvestment in livelihoods without reliance on high‑risk debt.
  4. Family Well‑Being
By 2031, ensure at least 70% of participating households show documented improvements in children’s school attendance, access to healthcare, and nutritional stability.
  5. Confidence & Community Impact
Strengthen confidence, dignity, and purpose among caregiver women, with 90% reporting increased self‑confidence and decision‑making capacity within their households and communities.

Project Description

The Women Livelihood Training (WLT) initiative is a ripple‑effect, integrated capacity‑development program designed for vulnerable families headed by women. In Kisoro District, many women serve as primary caregivers to orphans and children affected by chronic illness, poverty, and social vulnerability. These women are surrounded by urgent family needs but often lack stable income opportunities.

This project responds to that challenge by combining hands‑on vocational training, financial stewardship mentorship, and long‑term accompaniment, grounded in dignity, hope, and responsible stewardship. WLT equips women not only to earn income, but to transform household resilience, improve children’s well‑being, and strengthen faith‑anchored community life.

Core Focus Areas

1. Practical Income‑Generating Skills

Women receive hands‑on, market‑relevant training in:

  • Agriculture (climate‑smart farming, food production, surplus sales)
  • Tailoring (practical garment production and repair)
  • Small Business (enterprise setup, pricing, and customer skills)

2. Ethical Financial Advisory & Mentorship

  • Interest‑free, non‑exploitative financial guidance
  • Budgeting, savings, and reinvestment coaching
  • Avoidance of harmful debt cycles
