Will You Help Rebuild a Sanctuary for Refugees?

An Appeal for Bethsaida Church Reconstruction

Today, we want to share an urgent appeal from our dear friends in the Rwamwanja Refugee settlement. It’s a story of a sudden setback, but also one of incredible faith and resilient hope.

We recently heard from Pastor Steve Semivumbi, the dedicated leader of the Bethesda Power of God Church. As you can see from the video, the humble building where his congregation gathered for worship and fellowship has collapsed. The simple “worship tent” is gone, leaving the community without its spiritual home.

For a community of refugees, a church is more than just a building. It is a sanctuary—a quiet, safe place to find comfort, community, and hear the word of God in the midst of challenging circumstances.

A Community Ready to Build

As our team leader at Hope Community Action (HCA) Africa, Emmanuel Manishimwe, can confirm, access to income is extremely limited within the refugee settlement. A setback like this could be devastating.

But the congregation of Bethesda Church is not discouraged. They are ready and willing to rebuild. They have committed to contributing their own labor, time, and whatever local resources they can gather. Their faith is strong, but they need a helping hand to purchase the materials their new church requires.

Our Goal: $1,000.

Pastor Steve and his community need to raise $1,000 US dollars (approximately 3.5 million Ugandan Shillings).

This $1,000 is the external support needed to purchase essential materials. When combined with the contribution of the local members, this amount will be enough to give the Bethesda congregation a new place to call home.

How You Can Help

Hope Community Action Africa has partnered with Pastor Steve and his church to help them in this time of need. We are collecting donations for this project to ensure 100% of your support is delivered directly to the church for this purpose.

Your kind gift, no matter the size, will help buy cement, timber, and sand.

To give, please visit our secure donation page:

We are committed to full transparency. We will provide a praise report to all our supporters when the funds are delivered to Pastor Steve, and we will share the wonderful news and photos once the new church is complete.

Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your support. Let’s stand together with the Bethesda Church and help them rebuild their home.

Thank you so much, and God bless you.
