Title:                           Sports Counselor – Kisoro OVC Intervention Project

Status:                        Full Time

Duration:                    1 year, with review to extend after 9 months

Position Goal:          

HCAA has received support from The King’s Active Foundation UK, for the position of a Sports Counsellor, Kisoro OVC Intervention Project. The goal of this position is to promote and integrate HCA’s active-games intervention into the OVC Project, so that active games become an integral part of individual, household and community life, leading to improved socialisation of orphans and vulnerable children linked to the Kisoro OVC Intervention Project.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and undertake a schedule of home visits to promote and integrate active games into household life.
  2. Work alongside project counsellors to assist with information gathering, and to ensure an integrated approach to phsychosocial development of OVCs and their care-givers.
  3. Deliver active games as part of monthly community days, ensuring the community-day focus is enhanced.
  4. Coordinate the recruitment and onboarding of active-games volunteers.
  5. Manage and account for active-games equipment.
  6. Administer and report the active-games intervention, including:
    • Weekly video or in-person meeting with Team Leader.
    • Submission of a monthly pro-forma data report against agreed success-measures.
    • Monthly community day active games intervention.

Conditions of Work

  • 12-month role with a review for extension at 9 months
  • 3-month probation period
  • Based at HCA Kisoro
  • Core hours: 40 hours per week
  • Report directly to Team Leader with monthly 1:1 review meeting
  • Annual performance review

  • A passion for getting children active via active-games
  • Sports participation, coaching or administration
  • Bachelors degree in social work
  • A course in conseling
  • Resident of Kisoro
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Compliance to the employee safety guidelines, code of conduct, and child protection policies of Hope Community Action Africa.
